Danit Pleg started working on her graduate 3D printed collection for her Fashion Design degree at Shenkar College of Engineering and Design in September 2014. It took her 9 months of research and development, almost 2000 hours of printing, which means about 400 hours per outfit. The ideology behind this is was to see if an entire garment can be developed using technology accessible to anyone.

The 3d model was made using the Open source software called Blender, which was used later to experiment with a variety of materials and printers. She was supported by TechFactoryPlus and XLN to experiment with different materials and materials.

On her website, she writesI was really happy to join an incredible global community of makers who share their knowledge, designs, and time to help each other realize their dreams”. One of the issues was a flexible material, which was overcome by the FilaFlex; a strong and flexible material. Since 3D printing is a bit slow, an A4 print takes about 20 hours to print, Danit had to setup a 3D printing farm so she could reduce the total printing time. For the runway, she wanted the model to wear 3D, so she printed the shoes as well. Danit does believe this to be a new beginning and sees everyone printing at clothes at homes.

She shares about her future “I would like to stay in the industry and work with other fashion designers who want to experiment and research new ways of creating fashion using 3D printing”. Check out the video she posted about how she printed 3D clothes at home.
