Well this seems kinda wrong IMHO. Sure, some innovation comes from showing people new possibilities they had never thought of. (*insert “faster horses” example*). That’s actually the purest form of innovation, I would agree.

But most of the “innovation” nowadays is simply finding a way to give people what they’ve wanted for so long. Your way of thinking (which I could exaggerate into “user is dumb, they don’t know what they want until you show it to them”) is a bit reductive. Very often, people wouldn’t be slow to adopt new things and lagging behind the industry, but quite the opposite, the industry would be lagging behind what people really need.
