Decent’s a new team, and like most new teams, our first website was pretty much an out-of-the-box default.

Which could really be most generously described as “functional.”

The design wasn’t horrible, but for a team with ambitions to shake up the health insurance industry, it probably wasn’t going to get the job done.

Here’s how we found our groove.

Step 1: The team

It’s my first month at Decent — I‘ll be our Marketing Lead. Nice to meet you.

Note: this is not my tiger

Here’s some things to know about me:

Why is improving access to health insurance important to you?

When I turned 26 I was poor.

I was working to start my first company, and we weren’t exactly flooded with cash.

I was living off of a founder’s stipend in one of the most expensive cities in the world, which afforded me the luxury of splitting a studio apartment with three other guys in similar positions.

Paying a monthly premium for health insurance when I couldn’t even afford baseline human privacy seemed completely out of the…

Fair warning: It’s going to look nothing like this.

Successful people launch side projects.

They are a way to sharpen your skills while contributing something of value to the market. Good side projects make you more interesting at cocktail parties, build your portfolio, and, perhaps most importantly, make you money.

Today I’m going to show you how to launch yours without going broke in the process.

Why you should listen to me…

Over the past few months I’ve spun up a ton of projects with the help of David Ladowitz while we were both working as Entrepreneurs in Residence at Tradecraft (some of which were much better received than others).

During our time spent working…

A step-by-step guide to set up Hubspot’s free CRM to ensure that you never lose track of a job opportunity again

So at this point you have an active Hubspot CRM with an updated pipeline and enabled email tracking. Now we’re going to get to the real meat of the issue and customize the specific information you’re tracking and what you have available to you at a glance.

Let’s get back at it…

Creating custom contact properties (about as exciting as it sounds but pretty important)

A step-by-step guide to set up Hubspot’s free CRM to ensure that you never lose track of a job opportunity again

Welcome back! In Part 1 of this series you launched your CRM, now we’re going to set up your job hunt pipeline (which will help you track where you are with each of your opportunities). As a bonus, we’re also going to set up your email tracking which will give you an added layer of visibility into what your hiring managers are up to.

Let’s pick up where we left off…

Step 4: Tailoring this to the job hunt

Once you finish the tutorial, you’ll be left with a bar that looks like this on the top of your screen:

A step-by-step guide to set up Hubspot’s free CRM to ensure that you never lose track of a job opportunity again

First off, let’s just start by acknowledging that the job search is no fun for just about everyone. I’m sure there are some recently retired athletes or former presidents who thoroughly enjoy being courted by various companies but frankly, that’s just not life for most of us.

Most of us have to get proactive, and getting proactive is a lot easier when you get smart about it.

I’m going to show you how to set up Hubspot’s new CRM for your job search. …

Coming out of college I was interviewing so frequently that it was nearly an athletic experience, and I found a pattern. All interviews tend to wind down the same way. Regardless of how painful or pleasant they were, just before you’re ushered out the door, someone will ask you something along the lines of, “So… Any last questions?”

At this point you shouldn’t have anything extremely pressing left. This last conversational formality isn’t really designed to dive back into the technical applications of the product or any future market expansion plans; it’s only function is to tie a nice bow…

First off, let me start by saying I have no idea what I’m doing. I’m 25 years old with a couple of years of unfocused work experience, and a few months back I decided it was time to make a change. I felt like my last position had gradually morphed from a very dynamic and exciting role, to something that felt more like a standard routine. I needed a jolt to free myself. So I rolled the dice and enrolled in Tradecraft.

The first thing I noticed was that the air was thick with excitement. Everything was attacked with a…

Something’s wrong at reddit. Over the past few months tensions have been building between the site’s user base and it’s admins. Things came to a head on Thursday when over 100 of the site’s most popular forums elected to essentially shut themselves down in response to reddit’s management unexpectedly firing an admin who was arguably their most active link to the site’s user base, Victoria Taylor.

Victoria had been instrumental in the surging popularity of the r/IAMA forum in which celebrities and thought leaders throughout the world would field questions from reddit’s general user base for certain amounts of time…
