Blizzard Entertainment’s relaunch of their iconic team-based FPS game still holds charm at it’s core, but good luck reaching it through the dense commercialisation of a once beloved universe.

Back in 2016, back in school and back in the land of having no responsibilities, I was able to sink around 500 hours of my time into Overwatch and Overwatch alone.

The characters, the universe, the sounds and sights consumed me entirely and I spent nearly every evening of my late teenage years within this world of colourful combatants travelling the globe, duking it out against an opposing team. It was a meeting point for my back-bedroom casualty friends and it allowed us to forge many memories together, whether it be dominating the enemy team with no time for rest, or suffering a losing streak of twelve matches and then finally breaking through with a much needed win.

Overwatch has played a massive role in my gaming journey and I cherish every match I had with it. Jumping between Playstation and PC, Overwatch was the one game I kept on both systems and was the one game that scratched that boredom itch I often got within my gaming past time.

When the announcement came of a second game, I remember tearing up slightly at the trailer Blizzard released 2 years ago now. I was thrilled to hear we were getting an expansion to the PvE side…
