First Solo Trip: New Zealand

Agh! My first solo trip! Well…more like my first solo international trip. My first solo trip was this past October when I went to the Grace Hopper Conference in Texas. It was a wonderful experience and I made amazing friends who were by my side throughout the week, but a solo international trip is different.

I’m alone with no working phone in a foreign country (even if it is an English speaking country!) and bags to last two weeks (hope I didn’t over-pack!). I’m not even sure I’ll find friends (well I have one over there). It’s driving my anxiety insane traveling alone, but I think it’ll be good. I need a good adventure! And two weeks in New Zealand will be a great test run for my 2 months solo trip throughout Europe…

Another cause to my anxiety-driven insanity? My medication! I, unfortunately, have to inject medication every other week. It’s painful but it prevents another hospital stay (a story for another time). Anywho! This medication has to be refrigerated between 36–46 F or else it’s hello to sick me. The inconvenience of carrying the huge boxes and ice packs is not fun and then worrying about it’s temperature for the 12+ hours flight, but it’s what I gotta do. Luckily, it’ll lighten up when my trip is over (more presents room)!

I think I’ll end my first blog post for today. I’m awful at writing and tend to get off track but I’ll continue this so friends and family are updated!

Bye y’all!
