…et. Does that make me a hypocrite? Of course not. I don’t consider any of these things necessities. What I’m saying is that people can and should have nice things — especially artisanally made ones, which reward human-scale production — but they should have necessities first. Not just for themselves, but for everyone. When people do that, they’ve escaped capitalism’s trap. Not by becoming ascetics, monks, hermits — but by being a little more fully human.
