ImproveWell: App that empowers fronline staff and healthcare professionals to drive change and improve care.
“The Capital Enterprise Green Light Programme is a fantastic platform for SMEs. The candid feedback, advice and introductions we received from John, Julia and the team proved invaluable and underpinned our seed funding round. Furthermore, the alumni network and support we have received since continues to help us on our growth journey.”
– Lara Mott, CEO & Co-founder
ImproveWell took part in the Greenlight Programme way back in the Autumn of 2017. We here at Capital Enterprise were excited to catch up with them to see what further successes they have achieved since their time with us.
ImproveWell is a digital solution focussed on quality improvement which empowers frontline staff to drive change. The ImproveWell platform uses a smartphone application to enable staff to communicate their ideas for improving care directly to senior management. This involves 3 core feedback systems. Firstly, staff can share theme-based improvement ideas. Secondly, staff can share how their day at work is going helping organisations track workforce sentiment. And thirdly, staff can complete bespoke pulse surveys. An intelligent data dashboard allows programme leads to capture real time data, prioritise quality improvement efforts, measure change and publish reports completing the feedback loop. The great concept being from the ward to the board, everyone can make suggestions to improve their workplace.
Before the Greenlight programme ImproveWell had launched a beta product across multiple NHS customers. The team had confirmed the market opportunity and was seeking external financing to build a scalable platform. The company needed to invest in its technology in preparation for expansion across the UK, USA and New Zealand health systems and to hire key technical, marketing and programme engagement professionals. Furthermore, ImproveWell needed to develop its evidence base to further demonstrate return on investment in the software and service offering.
Co-founder and CEO Lara describes her time on the Greenlight Programme as ‘hugely helpful’ and ‘informative’ for both herself and her head of business development who supported on fundraising efforts. The Greenlight Programme offered strategic advice on positioning, ownership structuring and growth targets. Lara describes the programme as ‘invaluable’, particularly the Capital Enterprise team’s familiarity and relationships with investors for gaining key personal introductions.
For ImproveWell, the support from Capital Enterprise ultimately resulted in finding a cornerstone investor, galvanising the fundraising momentum to generate considerable interest and investment for a successful seed round. The team has been able to raise more than £400,000 in seed financing. This has allowed the team to expand with four new hires including a chief product officer, programme engagement lead, a data scientist and marketing manager. Alongside this, the team has been able to build a scalable product suited to ImproveWell’s market opportunity and growth targets. Lara herself has been recognised for her great work through numerous awards. In November of 2017 Lara was named as a ‘rising star’ amongst the top 50 female leaders in UK healthcare in a report produced by Biobeat. Moreover recently, Lara was a finalist for ‘Entrepreneur of the year’ in the 2019 edition of the Women in IT awards, the world’s largest tech diversity event.
