The Journey Begins...

I am about to embark on a new chapter in my life. I’m finally about to take the plunge and fully commit to the idea of becoming a web developer. No more excuses, and no more barriers to entry. Thanks to The Iron Yard I now have a clear path laid out before me.

The journey to finding this path really began when I changed majors in college away from Computer Graphics Technology. I had dreams and aspirations originally to become an animator and work for Pixar. However, once I got in the weeds on what the actual day to day life was, I knew tweaking sliders and key frames wasn’t for me. I knew I needed a change, and so I made a 180 degree one. I jumped ship and left the major for a path through sales and graduated with a Retail Management degree.

A few years into my career of sales and marketing, I know that it is not the right fit. I always look back to the technical classes I had back in college, and miss those the most. I miss solving problems. I miss debugging. I miss coding. I’ll never forget coding a stupid game with friends we called Chopper Gunner. The game kind of sucked, but dammit, it was mine. Looking back I wish I had taken a 5 degree turn, as opposed to a 180 degree one.

I truly believe I belong in the Computer Graphics Technology world. I am happy to no longer live with regret, and get back on that pursuit. I am thankful to the Iron Yard, and I can’t wait for the journey that is laid out before me.
