Rape culture. Body shaming. Religion.
These are some of the things we have to fight against, men and women.
We are constantly taught to like one kind of body. And we’re not allowed to say we like what we like. And we’re not even allowed to desire anyone or anything.
These are things that stops us from being openly honest about our feelings and our sexuality.
I consider myself lucky, as I’ve been able to overcome all that. It was a long battle. And mostly against myself. But it is very liberating to be able to acknowledge and to say out loud “damn, I’m so turned on by you right now!” to my partners.
It also elicits a much better response ;)
My father actually started that change in me:
I was 12, and my dad took me for a ride. Apparently he had discovered a part of himself. He told me that in life, some men like women, some prefer men, and some — like him — liked both. And that it’s OK to like what you like.
I didn’t completely understand everything that day, but it put me on a correct path.
And indeed, after facing my demons, I came back to that conclusion :
“It’s OK to like what you like.
It’s OK to desire someone.
So just go ahead and say it.”
