Presence of Design

If there is one point that the article on presenting design wanted to make clear, it’s that you should always be with your design construct. This fact, however, is a very crucial one, and I can attest to how often it isn’t followed in the work place based off of my interning experience, though when enacted it is very effective. If you create a design concept and expect it to be profitable without you driving the charge, think again. The main reason why designs are sold is due to the way they are presented, and the best companies always make sure they have someone there to deliver it to the audience. Take Sony’s gaming market as an example: every year, they are present and many different types of conferences and unveil new information and, in rare cases, new products themselves. Back when the Playstation 4 was first revealed, gamers all over the world tuned into the conference to witness the event live, either by attendance or livestreaming. The impact these speakers made, the excitement in their eyes and voice were critical to selling the design of the Playstation 4. Thinking back to one of my internship experiences, I was asked to sit on a meeting considering the change in the design of a vitamin product. Before attending the meeting, I was asked to read-up on the current model of the product to I would be informed for the meeting, and was left bored, uninterested, and unconvinced of why the product needed a design change. Once the meeting began, I was offered a sample of the new kids multivitamin, and while observing (and later ingesting) the product, the presented went on to explain the changes with the newer model and why they were necessary. Having both a man involved in the design process presenting the new product along with a sample was an extremely effective strategy, and does well to showcase what the article was illustrating in that the most effective way to get across your design concept is to present with your emotions and expressions to get across why it is needed.
