A People’s History of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club

I’ve been meaning to get to grips with Medium for a while, especially since the personal blog I ran for a few years got mangled in the insanely complicated process of moving from one web host to another while on Wordpress. Medium looks to be a simpler, ready made platform developed to showcase writing, and one that will possibly enable what I write to be distributed more widely. It may be an age when anyone can publish but, as ever, it’s distribution that’s the key to success.

The event that has prompted me to do this rather than just think about it is the publication of my latest book, A People’s History of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. Written alongside Alan Fisher, a fellow Spurs fan whose Tottenham On My Mind blog is one of the most finely-crafted and thoughtful Spurs fan blogs, it’s an attempt at writing a folk history of the club, one that focuses on the fans and how they shaped the club’s identity. The dustjacket is at the top of this post.

Publication date is 15 August, and the book can be pre-ordered now. Along with Alan, I’ll be doing lots of publicity work for the book, across a range of websites and publications. I’ll be using this as a platform from which to publicise the book myself. In the process, I’ll be learning how best to use Medium.

The hope is that I develop this out into a more general blog. Let’s see where the journey takes us. In the meantime, anyone interested in either reviewing the book or running an extract can contact me or the good people at Pitch Publishing.
