Very good piece. I do think there is a cyclical nature to this and what’s defined as “transgressive” is always in flux, along with the culture that affects it. The National Lampoon comedy of the 70s would be widely condemned today. But in a generation or two, we’re likely to see humorists crossing the line (being drawn today by millennials). Humor is a moving target. That’s what makes it so fascinating and difficult to define.
