Here’s How to Make Sure You Don’t Lose T-Mobile Data Coverage in Iceland

I recently flew WOW air to Iceland and Airbnb’d in Reykjavik. I also drove along the main roads in Southern Iceland and often had a signal. I chose T-Mobile because I wanted to always be connected to my cool iPhone app Accent™. There were several times when I had a strong signal but no data. I would look at my phone and sometimes see the carrier set to Vodafone and sometimes set to NOVA. Here is what I did to keep my free signal set to T-Mobile / NOVA.

How I Got Continuous T-Mobile Coverage

I turned off Automatic Carrier Mode in my iPhone settings.

Why Did I Do This?

If I didn’t do this then my iPhone would jump between NOVA and Vodafone. T-Mobile does not have a deal with Vodafone so I wouldn’t get data. I did get a strong signal but nothing would happen and it can make you wonder why your data is not loading.

How to Turn Off Automatic Carrier Mode

In your iPhone Settings navigate to: Carrier > Network selection / Carriers > Automatic: Turn off Automatic. Wait for NOVA to load as a carrier. Then manually select NOVA for your trip :)
