I’m looking for a Senior UI Designer

Is this a job ad?

No. Well kind of. Yes I guess so.
Before you chase me out of Medium for abusing this free publishing platform, let me explain.

The RSA Group is a very big and very, very old (founded 1710) financial services organisation. Last year I took the Head of Design role at RSA Digital and since then we’ve set about a programme of digital transformation. Even though a huge amount has changed, there are lots of “processes”. Sometimes our “processes” can slow the simplest of tasks down — like recruiting Designers. But we’re working on this.

It won’t be long before we will launch the RSA Digital site, blog, Twitter feed etc. We also have an HR team who are going through their recruitment “process”, for this role. However I believe in the ‘move fast and break things’ motto and so I’m using Medium to move a little faster.

What is the Senior UI Designer role?

The Design team at RSA’s digital is purposefully small and tight knit. Our work covers sketching, prototyping, creating high fidelity style guides, mocking up layouts, animations, presenting ideas. Essentially we bridge the gap between UX insights and frontend build.

Although this is an in-house team for RSA Group, we have a uniquely diverse range of brands to work with. Not only do we provide designs for RSA’s brands (e.g. MORE TH>N, Motability), but we also design for our partner brands. These include John Lewis, Nationwide, Marks & Spencer, Argos to name a few.

Our team oversees the entire digital experience — from researching insurance products and buying, through to claims and servicing.

What is the team like?

RSA’s digital team is a dynamic group of UX experts, Designers, Content Writers, Analysts and Product Managers who believe that putting our customers first is the key to creating better products. Our aim is to help RSA become a truly digital organsation.

Our team is organised in to scrum teams that work very closely together. Collaboration and open conversation is vital to our methodology.

We are based in Horsham, Sussex. That’s the bit between the south coast and London. It’s not quite Brighton and it’s really not Shoreditch, but it’s easy to get to, with some decent pubs within staggering distance.

What are you looking for?

I’m looking for a thoroughbred Designer. Ideally with a degree in Design, but at least 5 years experience working in a full time Design role. You’ll need to be comfortable clearly articulating what you’ve done, but more importantly why you did it. A working knowledge of agile project methodology would be very beneficial, but we can teach that.

Most importantly I’m looking for someone who loves design. A designer who gets excited by their work and who can help us build a really creative team.

How do I apply?

Let’s just start with an email or tweet. You need to send your portfolio site link with some work samples and we’ll take it from there.
