Thanks for writing this article. Amidst your hardship you actually manage to write about lessons you learnt from this assault rather than bashing AirBnB. I struggle so hard to contain my anger and resentment towards the fraud host and very unfortunately so, the people from our own country with masochists ideas. However you have commented gracefully and logically in response to their illogical, women-demeaning, victim-blaming ideas and I applaud you for that (and I guess I need to learn a lot from you).
To those who comment that it is her fault for staying at a ‘host of opposite gender’, you are missing the point here! She does not consent to any sexual advances and THAT’S IT. She has said NO, the man should have stopped! That’s sexual assault right there! Wherever she is, however she dresses, as long as she said NO, it’s a NO and it is NOT her fault. Masochists ideas (‘especially if you are a woman’) like this needs to be destroyed. What is next? Women cannot travel alone? Does staying at a member of opposite sex mean she automatically consent to sexual advances? You need to build a world where both men and women feel safe if they want to stay at an accommodation of ANY sex, be it same or opposite!
