I’m a foodie who enjoys eating a plant-based diet, so as you can imagine, I’m always on the hunt for healthy and tasty vegetarian options in Vancouver. I’ve put together a list of my five favourite places to grab a bite when you want a healthy plant-based dish that will satisfy your cravings.

1. Turf

Turf is hands down one of my favourite food spots to grab a bite when I’m craving a hearty meal. My favourite vegetarian dish they offer is the black bean burger with rainbow fries — made from a rainbow of roasted red and white sweet potato, beets and carrots.

2. The Anchor Eatery

When I’m craving something lighter, one of my go-to places is The Anchor Eatery in West Vancouver. With a multitude of vegetarian and vegan options ranging from baked goods to hearty sandwiches, you’ll never fall short of tasty, plant-based options at the Anchor Eatery. Pictured here is the blueberry, açaí smoothie bowl. The base is a blend of blueberries, açaí berries, and cacao powder, topped with house-made granola, fresh fruit, and a sprinkle of bee pollen for a nutritional boost.

3. Nulife Living Food Cafe

Nulife Cafe makes plant-based eating a piece-of-cake with an entirely vegan menu. My favourite treat is their coconut flour French crepe, drizzled with sweet raspberry sauce and topped with a mountain of fresh fruit.

4. Umaluma

For those missing the satisfying creaminess of traditional gelato, the cutest vegan creamery situated in Vancouver’s very own Chinatown is a one-stop shop for all gelato needs. Umaluma is one of my favourite creameries to go to when I need to curb my sweet tooth. As much as I enjoy every gelato flavour, (a heaping scoop of) Umaluma’s strawberries and cream is my personal favourite.

5. Cartems Donuts

If gelato just doesn’t hit the spot, go for donuts — that’s a saying, right? Donut enthusiasts can enjoy a wide selection of flavours at Cartems Donuts, including vegan and gluten-free options. The vegan donuts have the added bonus of being baked rather than fried, but deliver the same pillowy texture and indulgent taste as traditional ones. As much as I love all donuts — chocolate, sprinkled, and glazed alike — my two favourite flavours are the traditional glazed and smoked maple walnut.

So there you have it — five food spots to satisfy your cravings on a plant-based diet in Vancouver. May all your days be filled with love, light and tasty treats. Happy Eating!
