‘New Dutch Views’ is a series of photographs that revisits the traditional genre of landscape photography through a Western Muslim’s perspective. By framing the Dutch landscape from inside mosques, I would like to invite a reflection on our own perception of Islam, and the relationship between Muslims and non-Muslims living together in the Netherlands today. Although these composite images may appear to be surreal, they are in fact actual documentations of mosque interiors within their local surroundings.
‘New Dutch Views’ is an ongoing project that will be the object of a solo exhibition at the Fotomuseum of The Hague in May 2019. The project will also be featured in a book that will include reflections from my own story and journey as a European Muslim.
