THE GLOWING HEADSCARF EXPERIENCE (The Netherlands, 2016-…)

In the aftermath of the recent terrorist attacks that took place in several European cities, there has been a rise in the number of assaults committed against Muslim women who wear the headscarf. As a tribute to the women who bravely continue to express their religious beliefs despite potential prejudice and confrontations, I decided to create a ‘glowing’ headscarf with reflective materials and a flash. I then invited non-Muslim women to wear it, and join me for a walk in public space. At the end of each session, I made an audio recording of every participant while she shared her thoughts on the experience.
