Recently, I attended and spoke at CES 2018, where world business leaders and technological innovators convened in Las Vegas to share ideas and showcase their latest products. The event attracts every global industry and business sector imaginable from virtual reality to AI, to blockchain, connected homes, autonomous cars, and flying drones.

With over 170,000 in attendance representing 150+ countries, CES 2018 was a testament to technology’s global impact, and to how much the event has grown.

It is remarkable how much CES was a vivid showcase of how technology is eating everything and driving globalization. It’s found in every field, and is revolutionizing markets as we speak. We have a technological explosion on our hands, and many businesses are taking advantage. Technology touches everything that we do, and doesn’t see nations, states or borders.

Blockchain takes center stage at CES

Blockchain made its presence known at CES 2018, with many businesses from a variety of industries using blockchain to innovate their products. The technology truly embraced the vision of CES: embracing the globe and improving international connections.

Imagine an app, where consumers can purchase a single unit of power — 60 seconds worth — from anywhere in the world, and have their generator running within minutes. Or an emergency service that is blockchain powered, where the app can send an instant alert to family and friends, sharing the location and allowing those you’ve chosen to connect with one another. CES 2018 showcased how blockchain technology provides a new level of utility and value to consumers, and impacts a wide range of industries.

Kodak has shown the world how this technology can raise a business from the dead, through its newly-announced cryptocurrency and bitcoin mining initiative. Their mining project, KashMiner, allows Kodak to invest in Bitcoin and share the earnings with customers. By using their onsite power generation facility,.

Blockchain is a global framework that allows people to transfer assets, transact and connect securely and quickly.

And history has shown that technology can’t be stopped. The Silk Road shared technological advancements between Asia and Europe over two-thousand years ago, regardless of geopolitical barriers. Since then, our pace has only quickened.

Technology continues to transcend borders and connect people. It’s driving the world economy, whether we like it or not. Every year, CES showcases the world’s dedication to global connection and innovation.

With attendees from Argentina to Ukraine, Tunisia to Egypt, the event continues to attract entrepreneurs and tech pioneers from around the globe.

At Veem, we help businesses interact with the global market and simplify their payment needs — paying and getting paid. We continue to use technology to shrink oceans and borders, and improve global payments for SMBs who find it increasingly important to grow their business around the world or leverage resources around the world.

Now that CES 2018 is over, we are certain that the year ahead will be full of tech innovation from the small and incremental to the large and revolutionary. As long as tech enhances life, it will continue to drive us forward and drive globalization with it.
