care

i want to care for everyone
i want to care for everything
i care for shards of grass
and cloud ink that spills across sky
for babies in parks and beetles in sand
for my best friend and her mother
i care for those who i’ve just met
and for those i’ll never see again
caring is not weakness or
vulnerability laid sideways
to sleep, dulled by indifference and
apathy
caring is the most natural thing
an endless state
not — uncool
attachment
or unpliable longing
it grows with each day
i care
it matters
it matters
if you care too
