Interesting piece. Lee is amazing in his talent and even more so his persistence. Hollywood is a tough nut to crack and only getting worse. And films with content, regardless the director or race, just are not on their agenda. But angry black man? How could you not be angry in this country? I get that. However, I no longer tolerate Woody Allen as a person, despite loving the last movie of his I saw. There is anger and then there is hostility. I think of the backlash Lawrence is getting for her salary comments. Film, or at least Hollywood, seems even more conservative and bland than other media now. All this apologizing and meaningless controversies.
And for the record, Farrakhan has no cred. I hate separatism in any form. Feminism that hates men, Christian and Mulim who have the only “true faith”, racists, or anyone else who is afraid to include, terrified of the other. I do not know if Lee hates white people, but it is true that every artist must eventually expand his vision, his art. The best artists grow. Has Hollywood gotten whiter and more reactionary? Probably, but then so has most of America! And as for Tarantino, not a fan, with the exception of Pulp Fiction, of his work or personality. He, like Lee, may get a lot of things right, but as with a lot of genius, the perfection is in the work, not necessarily the man.
