As a former ABJ reporter and someone close to the recovery community, I have to defend the paper thus: Success stories are great, wonderful, a reason to keep going a day at a time. However, the issue the ABJ is tackling is this: there just isn’t enough long-term treatment option to get people into recovery, to create those success stories. And law enforcement is at a complete loss, I believe.
My guess is the paper WILL tell some success stories once we have this open conversation about the problem of getting anyone in need into treatment and recovery. But it’s a great thing you’ve done; varied perspectives and voices are vital in this discussion.
