The best way to fine-tune your job search process is to create hypotheses, run experiments, and then determine which efforts were most successful so you can build on them in your next experiment.

In the product and marketing world, this is called “A/B testing”. For example, a marketer might send out two versions of an email to a portion of their audience in order to determine which version gets the most clicks. From there, they’ll send the “winner” to the rest of their audience.

Each part of your job search process can be A/B tested. For example, you can use this process to…

  • Fine-tune your message for informational interviews
  • Determine which type of networking events are most productive for you
  • Refine your personal pitch
  • Improve your cover letter
  • Improve your LinkedIn profile
  • Improve your resume
  • Improve your brand

We’ll build on each of these over the coming weeks.
