Did you know that there’s an ideal time to ask for an advancement at work?

It’s true! Most women that want to ask for a promotion or a raise don’t realize how crucial timing can be. If you’re ready to advance your career, make sure you think strategically and show up prepared!

Timing Your Advancement At Work

So when is the best time to ask for an advancement at work?

In short: the first Monday in January.

I bet you didn’t expect it to be that easy, did you? Let me tell you why. At the beginning of the year, companies are typically setting their budgets and often tend to be in a place where they will try new things. If your company isn’t in turmoil, this is usually a good time to make the ask. Be sure to check in with HR to see when the budget for the business is set to make sure. Most of the time, this is when the company will be allocating funds that they will be spending throughout the year, and that has the potential to include your raise!

The likelihood of receiving a raise or a promotion could also depend on how long you’ve been with your company. If it’s been at least twelve months, it’s a great time to ask. But it never hurts to time the ask after a big win!
