“ ‘tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.”
Alfred Lord Tennyson
After having to paint over my mural during my recent de-installation of my ARTOMATIC exhibit, I have a greater understanding and appreciation for the value of our actions within our spaces. If something created brings memories and moments for and with others, does it mean that they didnt matter when the something created is gone? Did those memories and moments go away? Nope.
The mural I did brought people to my space, helped them have a more full experience during ARTOMATIC from being in my space and made a point for them about the value of extravagance. People who came to visit the space knew that the mural couldn’t be taken with the artist when the show was over. It could be considered a waste of time, but I would argue that it’s making the vital point about the importance of art in a space. Art marks time and place so uniquely. Like a city, it can provide a space for a community to grow.
Two other benefits to creating this temporary mural: I have pictures for my portfolio that I used today during a client meeting. The second was to make an impression on people. This mural helped me capture people’s attention. My impression on people for the bravery it took to be so extravagant with my time and talent will last longer than their impression of me for being safe.
I will gladly waste my time for you. It’s my love life. #art
