Ophelia was his name, the cat next door. Owned by an actress/voice coach and her husband, a producing artistic director of a theatre. The couple were non-genetic grandparents to my children, the cat was a gift to all of us in ways I am still discovering. Thank you for this essay — I almost didn’t read it because death and divorce are no such favorite topics — “almost didn’t” now seems to define what I choose to do and I’m leading a much more interesting life.
