Amazeballz Stories Day 90/100: The remarkable difference between distraction and renewal

This week I’m on vacation with my hubby.

The idea of vacation seems easy but I am thinking hard (maybe too much thinking) about what it takes to truly rest and regenerate versus simply distract and get away.

I don’t want to get away. I love the life I’ve built.

But boy howdy — I need to regenerate.

My resourcefulness is down. I have to work much harder to monitor and manage my “mood.” I feel myself wanting to snap at those I trust by the end of the day. I do see how VERY much I need to recuperate from the insane HUSTLE culture which predominates the entrepreneurial space.

Work and business culture is usually very YANG; Go. Move. Decide. Act. Make it. Do it.

But feminine culture and energy CAN be very YIN; Breathe. Pause. Create intentionally. Listen. Feel. Consider. Become.

I want and need more YIN in my work life and definately need a serious infusion of YIN in my vacation.

“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in while, you might miss it.” — Ferris Bueller

Distraction Activities

  1. Eating
  2. Go out drinking
  3. Watching TV
  4. Facebook/Instagram/Snapchat
  5. Sleeping

Renewal Activities

  1. Cooking and then savoring food you love

2. Gathering with your dearest to share food, wine, beers, stories, campfire and connection

3. Listening to a podcast or watching a video which uplifts you — and taking notes on what you learned

4. Connecting to your friends and family and listening to their stories, sharing your own

5. Resting — your soul, your heart, your brain and your expectations

The thing is — I’m not done. I’m not done with anything. I am taking a conscious pause. I still want to grow as develop as a human. I want to grow my business. I want to grow my relationships. I want to enjoy all the things that are worth celebrating in my life.

I can ONLY do all of that if I take the time to renew and recooperate. This vacation will not be a hustle-a-thon (even though I’m sure we will be active every day). I am excited to slow down and connect with myself and my husband (and the best food NYC has to offer).

How do YOU renew yourself best?
