As promised, here is the update and my attempt to #ShareTheJourney…
It was a really crazy month — first the mammogram, then the re-imaging, then the ultrasound and then the actual procuedure. The biopsy took longer than planned because I had some excess “seepage” — I think I’ll just leave it at that. I ended up being put into these horrendous compression wraps — think Hillary Swank in “Boys Don’t Cry” or Christina Ricci in “Now and Then.” I honestly became a size A for the first time since middle school. Ice, tylenol and more compression were my friends for 48 hours. And after two days, I finally got the “news.”
I spoke with the breast center team this afternoon. I say it’s good news and “not bad” news. The good news is the sample they took in the biopsy shows NO cancer (yeah, happy dance!!!!!). The “bad news” is the doctor isn’t convinced the surgeon took a sample from the right spot (go ahead and enter your own expletives here, I know I did!). I’m scheduled to go back next Tuesday after my stitches have had time to heal and will have more imaging. At that point, the doctor will know if she needs another biopsy or if we’re good to go. It’s a little frustrating but I’d rather be safe than sorry, and already feel a huge weight has been lifted knowing the sample they did take had no cancer!
Thanks again to all who have sent well wishes, prayers, and notes of encouragement. I’m determined to share my journey, no matter what the outcome, as I learn about new friends every day who have gone through something like this. Sharing is important, loving is important, knowing is important… knowing you’re not the only one, knowing it doesn’t always mean the worst, knowing that being worried is ok and that being scared is normal.
