You Never Know Who Is Watching

I love hearing from my friends who are losing weight and working out because they were motivated by my fitness journey. I also love hearing from strangers in my inbox who say the same thing, it’s so exciting.

Yesterday was extra awesome. I was running (ok, really I was light jogging) and waved at a neighbor who was feeding her horses. When I was on the way back down the mountain she flagged me down. When I stopped she came out to the road with some water for me and said she didn’t want to stop my workout but she really wanted to chat with me for a second.

She told me that she had been watching me for the past year. She said she watched when I first started and struggled to even walk up the steep mountain road without stopping to catch my breath. She said she watched as that got easier and I started power walking up. Then she saw me jogging and finally running. She said she watched me drop the pounds, even chuckled the one time she saw me stop and pull my sagging pants up mid jog. She said she watched in fear everytime I took the three mastiffs with me, because she was sure I’d end up face planting at least once.

Then she made me laugh when she said she didn’t stop me to make me think she was a stalker but that her daughter who was almost 400 pounds had been watching me too. She said after a month or so she started walking too. That she went from the porch to the mailbox, then she went to the end of the road and so on and so on. She also said that on days when she didn’t want to but she would see me out there in the rain, or when it was 90 degrees, she would make herself do it. She said her daughter had found me on social media and started followed me. And that when she saw me posting about working out even while I was traveling she would say "Mary is still at it, guess I should get off my butt."

I told her that was awesome and I’d love to meet her. That’s when she told me the coolest part. Her daughter had dropped almost 100 pounds and had decided to go back to college. Apparently she had dropped out a few years ago because of a serious health incident but was feeling healthier, happier and ready to tackle it again.

I was blown away!!!!! I know it wasn’t just watching me, but to even be a small part of her journey is such a blessing to me!!! I’m respecting her privacy, but if you read this, let me just say this... you go girl! You got this!!!

It was motivation for me to keep going but also a reminder that you never know who is watching and you never know who you are influencing…
