COMM140 Reflection

Yesterday I returned home from my first University residential, and with me, I brought back a whole lot of brand new knowledge. COMM140 was my very first class, although at first, it was a little confusing and overwhelming, I soon got the hang of it and came to love it. The concept of using Twitter, Medium and Scratch for education is amazing to me; the class definitely broadened my understanding of these things and opened my mind up in terms of locating great teaching resources for the future.
Pip was a huge help when it came to the step-by-step instructions on how to use these tools, if it were not for the utilisation of those screens across the classroom, and Pips coaching, my reflection would not be sounding so positive.
Before this class, I had heard of teachers using platforms like Instagram for educational resources, but never twitter. I am really glad that I had the chance to test this out and learn how to actually use it, as I think in the future it will become very beneficial to me. I thank Pip for those two great days at COMM140 for doing such a perfect job at showing us all ways of gaining a new perspective on all things through social media, but especially education.
Scratch was a whole new thing to me.. I had NEVER heard of it before.. And my first attempt at making my own scratch nearly resulted in me throwing my laptop out the window. I finally got the hang of it after a little while, and it became fun!

I think it is important that as a future educator, I am proficient with these kinds of tools and can lead by example and teach the ins and outs of it all. As technology is becoming more and more utilised within the education system, it is obvious that using these platforms for sharing knowledge is valuable to everyone.
