Having just done the graduate outcomes analyses for a university I can also testify that, although their degree cost them the same amount, women are less likely than men to be in employment on graduation day. Same cost- different outcome.

With regards to academia being a bitch- I hear you. I ran away screaming after my PhD, searching (in vain) for some real collaboration. You know- team work and the warm fuzzy buzz it gives you? Don’t fret overly much the business world is just as much of a bitch, with an amazing dearth of team work even where it matters the most.
