Why you should eat wild-caught fish

Let's start with this — if you’re eating fish on a regular basis you’re doing yourself a favor. Many of the essential nutrients our body need are to be found in fish.

Fish is a high-protein food that provides a range of health benefits. Fish contains all the essential amino acids, making it a “complete protein.” As an added bonus, certain oily fish such as salmon, sardines, trout, and mackerel contain essential fatty acids called omega-3 fatty acids reduce the risk of cardiovascular events and chronic disease and assist in the process of lowering inflammation and healing. The omega-3s found in fish (EPA and DHA) appear to provide the greatest health benefits.

However, it's important to know where our fish come from. The way a fish grows has an effect on its quality and nutritional value.

The fish we eat grows either in its natural environment which can be either a river, a lake or the ocean.

Or alternatively, they grow in farms.

In other words — we have farm-raised fish vs wild-caught fish.

Now although our ocean is not as clean as it used to be, it's important to understand what you get when you choose the alternate man-made version of growing fish.

When fish grow in farms that are a few things that interfere with the nutritional value of fish.

  1. In many cased farm-raised fish grow in overcrowded environments that easily generates disease. the best way to prevent these diseases is by infusing the water with antibiotics. these antibiotics end up in your plate and later on in your body.
  2. fish that grow in farms, don't eat seaweed and other fish but eat junk food. food that's meant to make them grow faster, become bigger and have way more fat in them. like in Salmon for instance.

Speaking of the way a Salmon grows. Next time your out buying fish try to pay attention to the difference between wild-caught salmon and farm-raised salmon.

there are 2 main differences.

  1. The color of wild caught salmon is a darker shade of pink and is way less fatty. that is because wild living salmon feeds off seaweed and the harder her swims the more antioxidants it produces that are shown in the darker color.
  2. The color of a farm-raised Salmon is a light shade of pink and has a lot of body fat. because that fish grow in a pool that requires less movement and when you combine that with a fatty diet you get a fat lazy fish.
