Some editing is always needed. I’m not arguing against that, and a lot also depends on the genre and type of the story. There are certain rules that are worth following in blog posts or essays, for instance. Good rules that make reading easier and the message more efficient.

What I was referring to, however, is the problem of over-editing creative writing or fiction. That’s where the whole thing becomes very, very tricky and it’s so easy to overdo it and just kill the soul of the writer’s voice. This is what saddens me most.
