Another big problem with current cancer research is the impact of “silos”, where companies tend to attack the problem based on their particular (and often narrow) goals and areas of expertise. Yet meanwhile cancer is proving to be a very complex and variable disease, that embraces everything from pharmaceuticals, to life styles, molecular biology, statistical modeling and genetics…. which is increasingly requiring a much more ‘multi-faceted’ approach.

And it’s often a similar dilemma as in politics… namely, how do we encourage more “cooperation”, as well as try to cultivate more cross-discipline “generalists”?
