Fascinating, and some of these things are like wearable sculpture! Once read somewhere that full medieval European armor, usually around 16 gauge thick, weighed well over 100 lbs, compared to say, Samurai armor, which also allowed much more freedom of movement, and weighed only a tenth of that! BTW, compare all that to today’s average U.S. combat soldier who already now carries about 60 lbs of gear.

Armor changes things in swordplay. If you’ve never trained in it, you can’t imagine how it affects your movements and execution of even simple actions. It has been said that while Europeans designed their armor to defeat swords, the Japanese designed their swords to defeat armor.
