I also wonder if all the extra RW nuttery in places like AZ and your state has anything to do with them both being “Swing States”, presumably receiving more “attention” from the GOP and RW groups in general. And then like the article mentions, there’s also the way that candidates in these kinda Republican strongholds each try to “out-conservative” each other in the local primaries, with ever more extreme ideology. Which soon becomes a sorta self-reinforcing ‘feedback loop’. Finally, evangelicals apparently amount to a ‘yuge’ percentage of GOP primary voters, with over 40% of GOP primary votes in NC alone.

It’s doubtful DJT will ever lose his ‘base’, but yeah as time goes by, the GOP mainstream seems to be tiring of all the continuous chaos, and hopefully the closet ‘moderates’ will be the first round of “defections”.
