Never saw Eastwood’s characters as champeens of the underdog, but more like the libertarian lone wolf ‘outsider’ with no time for laws, traditional authority or any sense of ‘community’, and he simply removed whatever got in his way while he was ‘passing thru’. That it helped the locals was just a fortuitous by-product. In fact it seemed very apropos that he should rail at an ‘empty chair’ symbolizing Obama and by extension, any ‘authority’, even legitimate ones.
