Per Slate, the Thunder score (slightly) more points per possession off a Westbrook defensive rebound than when a teammate gets a defensive rebound while he’s on the floor. Per a Nylon Calculus article from earlier in the year, the Thunder shoot earlier in the possession with higher eFG% when Westbrook gets the defensive rebound than when another OKC player does.

This is modest statistical backing for the intuitive argument that Westbrook grabbing rebounds allows the Thunder to create more transition opportunities (which is generally the case for guard rebounding).
