Gender Refugees situation In Tanzania (Nyarugusu camp)

There numerous success stories of women leadership in other sector but I didn’t hear in Refugees may be there are they .on the Friday I had a conservation with one of my Burundian friend who works in Nyarugusu camp we talk a lot of issues, but the interesting part he mentions a woman who is Zone leader age 45 play role as mother had seven children also as Leader who represents 33 villages and a worker in NGOs, that was surprised me a significant number of a woman holding a prominent position. The first time to find a woman that appears to have conquered territory from the older generation and traditionally held the ultimate authority. She is courageous to take the risk to step in a leadership position never afraid how people will say? The Burundian society is patriarchy the belief women household

A good wife is quiet and shy and obeys her husband. Loud-mouthed young women are considered prostitutes and will find it difficult to find a husband. And for men who allow his wife to work, he will path on humiliation and the discriminate from the fellow’s men ’s because he failed to be a real man. That why other their refuse to allowed their wives to work. She is very humble and respects everyone in the camp and she is very optimistic about the future no matter how bleak it seems also she is a good communicator very persuasive and will to lead by example, she is integrity that reminded me the warren buffet words once said that you need to look for three things in a leader which are Intelligence, energy, and integrity if they lack on integrity don’t bother with first two. Then I ask myself Does this women position open up for a new ideology of gender in Refugees camp yes. We need to encourage women in leadership to put gender mainstream in Refugees
