Assessment 6 — Hosting

The requirements for the Broken Lens website are pretty minimal. With my experience testing out my own hosting, I know a page like this can be ran off of a Raspberry Pi 2 Model B. The relevant technical specs of the Raspberry Pi are: 1GB of DDR2 RAM, 900MHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU, Gigabit NIC and only consumes 5W of power. For the sake of hassle free, ease of use and security, I’m going to suggest against using a Raspberry Pi or any local hosting for that matter.

In the state my site is currently in, it only takes 6.82MB on disk, with each page visit, it should be at max, 6.5MB. I’ll need server side scripts for the contact form and emailing service, it will also require a database. SQLite is most probably sufficient, but my be easier to use MySQL.

For my three webhosts, I compared Amazon Web Services, Crazy Domains and iinet.

All of them offer a the same services, but iinet and AWS are the most reliable.

For my recommendation, I’m going to suggest iinet. iinet has a good customer service with a local call center, perfect for the client.
