iOS 17, the latest version of Apple’s iPhone operating system, is now available to download.

It comes with many new features, including Standby Mode, custom stickers, the ability to set multiple timers (yes, finally), and more. And I am going to tell you the best features.

1. Interactive Widgets

Before you say, “Android did it first!” I know, but it’s still fantastic to see interactive widgets on iOS 17.

It made me mad, that I couldn’t use a widget to pause my music or check off something on my to-do list. With the older version of iOS, the widget could only show static data and a tap would launch the app.

Fortunately, Apple has realized the importance of making its widgets interactive.

2. NameDrop

In the past, to get someone’s number, you typed the number into your phone and chose a name for them. And now that NameDrop is available, it’s even simpler to get someone’s contact information.

By using the magic of AirDrop, you can hold your iPhone close to someone else’s, and it will share your name and Contact Poster (another new feature) with them, while letting you decide which phone numbers and email addresses to share.

You can even choose if you only want to receive their number, or to share yours too.

It’s a very quick and efficient way to get someone’s contact details. Now, we just need Apple and Google to work together to make this a cross-platform feature.

3. Personal Voice

Personal Voice is a way for you to create a model of your own voice, and then use your iPhone’s Live Speech feature to type out text and play it back through your iPhone’s Speaker. But sadly, you can’t make Siri use your voice. It will come in very useful for people who have difficulty speaking and who might need to type out things to say.

It takes about 15 minutes to set up, where your phone guides you through saying and recording 150 short phrases. This captures enough of your vocal patterns to create a model of your Voice.

4. StandBy Mode

StandBy that turns your iPhone into a smart display when charging it. You can customize what is shown on the Display, like the Time, Calendar, Match scores etc. It also shows incoming calls, and notifications.

Basically, it adds more functionality to your iPhones when they are charging, and not in use. This makes StandBy, a fantastic mode for your nightstand, kitchen counter, or desk.

5. Screen Distance

When you work or are just for a long time on your phone, your eyes could be damaged if you are always too close to your display. That's where the new feature Screen Distance comes in clutch.

If you’re too close to the screen, it will remind you to hold your iPhone at a safe distance.

6. Set multiple Timers

As I said in the beginning, you can now add Multiple Timers. Also, you can set labels to differentiate between the timers.

All the timers are listed on the Lock Screen, and if you’re using an iPhone 14 Pro or 15 model, you’ll see the last timer on the Dynamic island.
