How I learned English without go to an Institution

A little note before start: I took the challenge of learn english by myself, and this post is part of that, I decided to write in english trought I am not master it, only using what I learned without Google translator or something like that. So please help me and correct me in the comments. Thanks!

Nearly two years ago I decided that I wanted to learn english. I was in my 29s, and in the high school I did not received the best education in this subject. I understood very few things but I was not able to read an article in english.

So I had two roads in front of me, go to a institution and spend many years in my education or doing by myself.

As I really like to learn by myself, in others areas too, I decided doing this way.

And I made my first step: try to read an article of a subject that matters to me (entrepreneurship) and translate word by word with a extention in my browser.

It was very frustrating, read a single article took me weeks, but as the content that I could decodify was priceless it excited me.

In few months I find myself reading books with help of translator but I was able to read an oration almost entirely.

Along the time I was able to suscribe to many blogs and website and read it on daily basis, and this was like discover a new world. Sites like Techcrunch Brainpickings, Mashable, the next web, Medium too and many others.

Before of that I continued my learning proccess reading books in kindle format wich I brought in amazon, I was facinated. I read about entrepreneurship, personal grow, history and many others subjects.

And in this point I did noticed that I must continue a step beyond: I began to watch Ted talks without subtitles and I tried to write what I was hearding. In short time my ears recognized the sounds and interpreted it and before that I was able to understand many talks in youtube wich subtitles in spanish was not enable.

And finally and this was few weeks ago. I take one more step foward: I went to speak with natives in a meeting in Buenos Aires that meet tourist with spanish natives in order to learn two languages. I made it very well.

Start to write in english is my last step to master the language. I am a little shamed to write so bad, but in other hand I just want continuing learning and I consider that it is the best way to do it. And I want to remark that if you really want to learn something you only need a internet conection and put effort in it. Patience my little Padawan.
