Patients are being comfort after 2 weeks recovery for facelift surgery
Facelift surgery is a popular option for the Baby Boomer generation. A facelift tightens and smoothes the skin where aging and heredity has begun to take its toll. A Facelift can be done as a minilift which addresses the lower portion of the face, or can be completed as a full facelift which usually includes a brow lift, neck lift and even eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty). Good candidates for facelift surgery are those patients who have noticed a significant increase in lines and wrinkles, a loss of volume in the face which now results in loose, hanging skin, or simply those who feel they do not look as youthful on the outside as they feel on the inside.
Facelift surgery should be performed by a Facial Plastic Surgeon registered with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. This ensures that an expert, specializing in Head and Neck surgery, will be performing your facial plastic surgery procedure. Prior to a facelift, patients will undergo some minor safety tests to ensure that they are suitable candidates or surgery. Some of these medical tests can include a blood test, chest x-ray and ECG. A facelift is usually performed under general anesthesia and can take between 4- 8 hours, depending on the number of other facial plastic surgery procedures that are incorporated with it.
Following a facelift, most patients are comfortable to return home the same day as surgery, under the care of family members or a friend. If a patient does not want to go home, most private Toronto Plastic Surgery facilities offer the option of overnight care with 2 nurses attending to the patient. Usually a head dressing must be worn for the first 24 hours, and then can be removed. Stitches are usually taken out on Day 5.
Recovery for facelift surgery generally takes 2 weeks and then patients can resume their normal schedule. It is recommended that patients limit their activities for the first 2 weeks, just to give their body ample time to rest and heal effectively. Following the 2 week mark, the bruising and swelling from the facelift will have dissipated to an appropriate level. The face continues to heal over the coming weeks and months, however, the scars and lines from the facelift should be well hidden in the hair line and behind the ears, virtually imperceptibly. In the end, a facelift leaves patients looking more youthful and refreshed which is why it is such a popular plastic surgery choice amongst men and women alike!
