The San Diego-based company has been recognized by one of the world’s top universities

Nanome Inc. has placed third in the North American final at the Fudan University 3rd Top University Startups Global Competition in China. Five teams out of 21 made it to the final round.

Fudan, which is located in Shanghai, China, is among the most prestigious and selective universities in the world. The University, which has four campuses located in Shanghai, has an exchange program with UC San Diego, where Nanome is headquartered.

from Nanome’s presentation

Our CEO Steve McCloskey gave a five minute presentation about Nanome products — such as CalcFlow, Nano-Pro, nano-one and Matryx — and discussed how virtual reality will change the world. He briefly touched on the marriage of VR and blockchain that is so important to the company’s decentralized collaboration platform, Matryx.

The atmosphere of the event was great. 400 people were in attendance for the event, which was live broadcast all over China, including venture capitalists and students at all levels of academia. Steve had a face-to-face interview with the moderator after his presentation of the Nanome software suite.

The projects competing alongside Nanome covered industries like deep sea exploration, robotics, automation, nanotechnology and LED.

Nanome was the only virtual reality company in the competition. We were also the only blockchain company.

Thanks to Fudan University, and congratulations to all of the other startups at the event, who are each in their own unique ways pushing progress in science and beyond for a better world.
