What Is Up With my Croton?

And What Do Croton Flowers Look Like?

The other day while caring for my plants, I noticed something about my Garden Croton. I’d noticed a smaller version of it before and assumed it was a new branch. When I returned after being away for a few days, the new little “branch” had become something else entirely.

Below is the oddity pictured.

At first I was somewhat alarmed. It kind of looked like a new branch but the numerous bulbs on the end DID NOT look like leaves. Honestly, they looked somewhat menacing — like some sort of nasty spore that had affected my plant.

I was especially worried because I only just recently was able to cure this plant of spider mites — a scourge that stunted growth for around two months! But after doing some digging, I found out that it’s actually a floral bloom!

I had no idea Crotons could flower.

This “spore” appears to be nothing more than the start of Croton flowers. Here’s a picture of what we’ll expect in the near future.
