Depends on what you define gender as. If you define gender asphysical characteristics (even though that technically falls under ‘sex’), then it is a spectrum that ranges from pure XX to pure XY with wiggle room in between (see: intersex).

If you define gender as the behaviour of individuals of different sexes, then such a question is pretty pointless since these can and do change drastically depending on the time period, dominant culture, and so forth. For example, there are some cultures that ignore the binary of “male and female” altogether and recognise three or more genders while other cultures flip so-called “traditional” gender roles completely. Or you could simply look at Western culture — a century or two ago, pink was seen as the appropriate colour for boys and young boys wearing dresses was a commonality.
