Hollywood, CA — Universal Pictures has officially announced plans for a long-awaited sequel to the beloved 1985 science fiction comedy-drama, Cocoon. The new film, titled “Cocoon 2: Cocoon to the Coffin,” will reunite the surviving members of the original cast and bring back Ron Howard as director.

The first Cocoon film introduced audiences to a group of senior citizens who discovered a mysterious swimming pool with rejuvenating properties, thanks to alien cocoons stored beneath its surface. The movie became a commercial and critical success, garnering two Academy Awards and spawning a sequel in 1988.
