So, this is the third opening paragraph I have written for this post. The first two felt natural but didn’t feel right. Does that make sense? Probably not, but that is okay. I am sitting here in the beverage car of the Amtrak enjoying a coffee, some uplifting tunes, and thinking about how phenomenal these next few days are going to be in St. louis. “One more time, we’re gonna celebrate, oh yeah, all right, don’t stop the dancing.”

Anyways, this is my first post on Medium and I am feeling pretty good about it. The key is to get past the sixth sentence! Almost there. See what I am doing here? Ha-ha. But yeah, I am done with Wordpress and so pumped to be on here. I had a mattcermak.com page on Wordpress that featured an inconsistent blog, a witty about me section, and some action shots of my college golf days. That’s all great but totally unecessary. If anything, it was simply a distraction. So, I’m cutting the fat and get to the core.

All I need is a platform that will help me focus on my writing. I simply have to write more and publish more. I mean I think about it every day, so why don’t I just do it? Well, because it is time consuming and writing is the type of activity the perpetuates self doubt. Like the truth, writing can set you free but can also mentally kick the shit out of you.

As Bono once said in front of a crowd of 80,000, “I don’t know what I’m talking about. Anyway, I can talk if I want to.” That’s kind of how I feel right now writing this post. Sometimes we just gotta ramble on about about a bunch of stuff only because it feels right. Anyways, isn’t that a great song? I still haven’t found what I’m looking for….

There is always something else out there for us. Something more. Something better. That’s what that song stands for. And I think it is phenomenal lead in song for the New Year. The New Year spurs motivation and commitment in all of us and that itself is incredibly inspiring. Now, it’s time to act.

2013 was a good year and 2014 is going to be a better a year. In 2014, I am going to act on the things that I think about doing; in 2014 I am going to hustle on the side. Plain and simple. We all want to leave our mark in some way or the other, right? I sure know I do. It just takes effort.

Well, I can see the Arch and I better get back to my seat. I’ll be back on the blog next year.
