In the immortal words of Col. Sherman Potter, “HORSE HOCKEY!” A few things that need to be addressed…
- There is no evidence of voter machine fraud as described in the embedded video which would be easily verifiable upon opening the machine after the election results (which is a standard QC measure). Swapping panels would cause such a lopsided result that it would precipitate an investigation. Further, a perpetrator would have to know in advance if who the votes where going for in that district in order to ensure that the result worked in your candidates favor.
- The paper ballots have indeed been proven to incur fraudulent attacks in both of Bush Jr.’s elections (remember the dangling chads in Florida and Ohio?). There is no evidence that proves that this method is more incorruptible than a voting machine.
- The biggest threat of voter fraud is gerrymandering and the inconsistent application in each state requiring identification. These go hand in hand. Poorer and minority neighborhoods are more likely to lose out as district lines are drawn to favor the wealthier and white voters. It’s being done blatantly in several key conservative states now like Florida and Texas. yes, this does happen on the Dem’s side and is equally as inexcusable, but its a vicious cycle that threaten democracy more than disproven voter fraud.
- Four federal intelligence agencies already confirmed that there was meddling by Russia and verified that Putin endorsed this campaign to undermine our electoral process. So, yes, everybody now does know that there is evidence in the second place. In fact, Russia has been implicated in similar shenanigans in France, Germany and the Netherlands (note that in each there is xenophobia, anti-Islamic movements and a demagogue candidate in which to steer voters). These finding have been accepted universally by both the Democrats and Republicans in Congress and sanctions are being taken.
- TRUMP. His election has nothing to do with voter fraud (although he think the popular vote is somehow worth fighting for 9 months after the election). This is about “meddling” and Russia using misinformation with bots and paid trolls to influence the vote by fomenting anger and fear and undermining the entire process with lies. People have a heard mentality and can be easily led especially with fear and hate. In a post 9/11 America, we’ve seen a growing number. It was a masterful deception by Putin & Co., perhaps the best the world has ever seen.
- The commentariat (great word btw), as you call it, can shoulder the blame for not properly fact checking or furthering the lies for viewership and clickbait. The former happens to the best of them from time to time and the latter is more from the real commentariat — the partisan editorialists that pass their opinions off as fact. However, the attack on the “liberal media,” which was just the media until the GOP didn’t like the truth being reported and Trump’s irretractably childish and churlish reactions to his exposed lies and hypocrisy as “fake news,” is an attempt to shade facts. Since, as I established, people tend to have a heard mentality they are most easily lead by the bright and shiny squawk-box at the end of their living rooms.
There is no longer a question of IF the election was influenced nor by whom. The question now is how much does #45 know about it and how involved was he and his campaign? Since Russia has already agreed upon as the aggressor, then any association with them to this end with them the domestic perpetrators traitors punishable by death. So this is SERIOUS. This is not some topic for flippant dismissal of facts, evidence or a valid, lawful and righteous ongoing investigation. Because not knowing if an American President is a puppet of Russia in any generation is completely unacceptable.
