It’s four months hence since this article was written and now that we know who the President is and the actions he has taken we now know what that one key phrase he used on the campaign trail means: “Vote for me. What do you got to lose?”
Well, after seeing all the executive orders trying to counter environmental laws, force through the Dakota pipelines and open up protected areas for mining is EXACTLY what we have to lose. The danger in the wrong decision from that phrase is catastrophic for the environment. Furthermore there will be a lessening ins sustainable business practices designed to maximize profits without concern for ecological consequences.
The dangers in selecting a madman because he knows that voting is either a principled or pragmatic action. He asked people to choose personal gains over quality of life for all. And he managed to convince enough in the right places to push is pro-big business agenda forward.
It dawned on me that Trump was too old to have read the Lorax by the time Dr. Seuss published it in 1971, but I’m sure he knows of the storyline. However, I think he may feel that the Once-ler is gthe protagonist and the Lorax is the bad guy always telling him “no” and “stop” something that he apparently was not told enough of as a child.
